In July 2004, David Dekker founded and serves as
Managing Partner of Cat Trail Management, a family
office and its associated merchant bank, Cat Trail
Capital. Cat Trail focuses on various investments
as well as building a select portfolio of early stage,
public and privately-held companies in the media,
technology and biotech sectors. The firm applies a
unique approach to private equity combining prudent
working capital investment with hands-on managerial
oversight.
Formerly, David was Chief Operating Officer and
co-owner of Marcel Dekker, Inc. (Dekker), an international
scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publisher.
David positioned Dekker as a technology leader, overseeing
all online product development and numerous strategic
acquisitions. In January 2004, Dekker sold its publishing
assets to the Taylor & Francis Group (www.informa.com).
David established the Dekker Foundation in 1997.
Endowed by the Dekker family, the Foundation’s
mission is to support improvements in medical care,
environmental conservation, and community through
education, advocacy, and empowerment. David directed
the development of the Foundation’s mission
and policies and currently serves as a trustee overseeing
its general operations, including scholarships, endowments,
and other dispersal of funds.
In 1995, David founded CrossRoads Media, LLC, an
investment holding company specializing in publishing
services. As founder and Managing Principal, David
directed all company activities, including the acquisition
and restructuring of assets. Of particular note among
its portfolio companies was Achorn Graphics, a traditional
compositor which transformed itself into a high demand
XML tagging house with proficiency in rendering scientific
notation and mathematic formulae. SPI Technologies,
Inc. (www.spi-bpo.com)
acquired Achorn Graphics in December 2002.
David was awarded a Master of Business Administration
degree from the Executive Management Program at Pace
University’s Lubin School of Business. Post
graduate work included the Executive Education Program
“Mergers and Acquisitions” at Columbia
University’s Graduate School of Business. He
received a BS degree in Management Science from the
